New-Gadget-2022; Samsung to launch QD OLED TV

Insiders “confirm”: Samsung will bring a QD OLED TV onto the market in 2022.

As insiders report, Samsung will bring an OLED TV to the market again in 2022. The in-house QD-OLED technology combines the advantages of OLED with quantum dot materials!

QD-OLED-TV

Anyone looking for a new TV set in the price segment between 1,000 and 2,000 euros, who values good picture performance, the latest standards, and gaming functions, can often find it difficult to avoid a 4K OLED TV from LG Electronics. LG has established itself in the high-end TV segment in sizes 55 and 65 inches with its OLED TVs.But now the "single rule" seems to be coming to an end. . According to insiders, Samsung Electronics will launch a QD OLED TV for the first time in 2022.

QD-OLED could outperform classic OLEDs

Classic OLEDs

Of course, Samsung Electronics will not be able to catch up with LG Electronics' lead in the OLED market so easily, but the new, hybrid display technology from Samsung carries a certain risk for its competitor from South Korea. Blue OLED diodes serve as the light source, which - who would have thought it - enable the blue color display. In combination with a green and red color filter made of quantum dot material (QD), the red and green color elements are also implemented. In theory, Samsung's QD OLED televisions should surpass the picture quality of OLED and QLED televisions - at least in terms of precise color and contrast display.

Samsung might have been able to start with QD-OLED as early as 2021, but the company decided against it because the brightness output, similar to an OLED, is not as high as, for example, a QLED television. Even Samsung's new TV lineup will certainly not achieve brightness values of over 1,000 nits with OLED lighting technology. QLED televisions deliver between 1,000 and 3,500 nits, depending on the model.

With advantages and disadvantages of OLED

In return, buyers would be rewarded with precise color reproduction, a perfect black level, and infinite contrast. Depending on the user's requirements, these factors may even be far more important for the image quality than a high maximum brightness. As with classic OLED technology, we see disadvantages in bright usage environments. We don't think that Samsung will create a display matrix for QD-OLED that is much less reflective than an OLED. The question of permanent impairment of the image (burn-in) has not yet been clarified.

Samsung Display had invested billions in the last few years to get QD OLED production up and running. The recycling should not only take place via the in-house CE division via Samsung Electronics but also via third-party providers. Rumor has it that in addition to Sony and Panasonic, TCL has already received a QD OLED prototype display.

QD-OLED, NEO QLED, and MicroLED

NEO-QLED

According to Insider, Samsung is placing the new QD OLED televisions below its new NEO QLED product line (QLED with mini LED backlight) and MicroLED displays, but above the normal QLED televisions. Possibly so as not to cause too much damage within these product groups. We think QD-OLED can establish itself well as its TV category, at least in the popular sizes 55 and 65 inches (possibly even smaller sizes). With large displays (from 65 inches), the QLED and NEO QLED televisions remain interesting and above all affordable.
